Dr. Ellen Bronson is the head veterinarian at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and also leads the zoo’s field projects and research endeavors. She has worked as a clinical veterinarian at the zoo since 2006. She works on conservation projects ranging from Panamanian golden frogs in Panama to pink river dolphins in Bolivia, but she is also an active collaborator on many native species projects across the state of Maryland with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, including snowy owls and other raptors. She is part of the veterinary team for Project SNOWstorm and organizes the live bird sampling for the project, analyzing any sample collected from a live bird by the SNOWstorm biologists and veterinarians, analyzing the samples to assess the health of the population, and storing any remaining samples for future research projects in the biobank at the Maryland Zoo.
