Toronto is a four-year-old female originally caught as a first-winter owl in March 2022 at the Detroit (MI) Metro Airport, banded and relocated. In March 2025, she collided with a balcony window in Toronto, ON, suffering some minor injuries. After treatment at the Toronto Wildlife Centre she was fitted with a special, lightweight 30g transmitter by SNOWstorm bander Charlotte England, and released March 26, 2025. Because she is a rehabilitated owl, and to protect her from unwarranted attention, we are not releasing her tracking map until she migrates north at the end of the winter. Toronto’s transmitter was underwritten by generous contributions to Project SNOWstorm.

We are raising $15,000 this year for Snowy Owl research.
We're continuing our work this winter, learning more about these majestic Arctic predators, but we can't do it without your help. Your donation to Project SNOWstorm is tax-deductible through our institutional home, the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Pennsylvania, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
